There's one question I hear every fall at the shop: "What do I take when I feel something coming on?"

My answer, every time: Gone Viral. But the part that matters most is this — you have to catch it early.

As a Registered Nurse for 13 years at a Harvard teaching hospital, I watched timing change outcomes. When we started a patient on an antibiotic, we often gave a loading dose — two doses taken two hours apart — to bring blood levels up quickly before dropping to a maintenance schedule. I use the same logic with Gone Viral. At the very first sign of symptoms, take 20–30 drops. Two hours later, take another dose. Then every 8 hours... if needed.

Most people only need 1–2 doses. By then, the symptoms are gone. Then you're done. Put your bottle away until the next time.

That window — the onset — is everything. Starting Gone Viral a day or two into being sick might change the speed of recovery. This formula was designed to be deployed at the signal, not after the fire has spread.

That's why people stock up at the start of cold season and keep a bottle on the shelf.

Placing an online order when you feel something coming on means you'll miss that critical window.

What's in it, and why it works at onset

Gone Viral is a blend of five plants with long histories in herbal medicine, each traditionally used for antimicrobial and immune-supportive properties:

🌿 Oregano — One of the most studied botanicals in traditional herbal practice. Oregano oil contains carvacrol and thymol, compounds traditionally used across Mediterranean and folk traditions for centuries for their broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties. Used widely when the body needed reinforcement at the first sign of something coming on.

🌿 Tulsi (Holy Basil) — Sacred in Ayurvedic tradition and used for over 3,000 years, Tulsi is traditionally valued for its adaptogenic and immune-supportive properties. Research has begun to examine its activity against a range of pathogens, including viral threats.

🌿 Usnea — A lichen (a mutualistic combination of a fungus and algae). It's not a plant, but it's one of herbalism's most respected antimicrobials. Usnea contains usnic acid and related compounds that have been studied in laboratory settings for their activity against Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, and H. pylori. A 2023 peer-reviewed study published by the National Institutes of Health examined usenamine A extracted from Usnea diffracta against SARS-CoV-2 in human lung cells. The researchers found it inhibited viral entry, suppressed inflammatory markers, and destabilized the coronavirus spike protein across multiple variants. The authors concluded it "shows potential as an antiviral drug that can provide protection against COVID-19." This is laboratory research, not a clinical trial — but it points to why Usnea has been used in traditional herbal medicine for respiratory threats long before researchers had the tools to explain why.

🌿 Ginger Root — Warming and circulatory, ginger helps move the other botanicals through the system and has been studied for antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties in traditional medicine research. In herbal practice, it's used to support the body's own defense response from the first moments of an immune challenge.

🌿 Peppermint — Traditionally valued for its cooling menthol compounds, peppermint relaxes the respiratory tract, eases congestion, and creates conditions where the other herbs can do their work. It's also what makes Gone Viral pleasant to take at a moment when nothing else sounds appealing.

The dosing protocol

  • At first symptoms: 20–30 drops. Hold under the tongue for a minute for quick absorption, then swallow; the rest will be absorbed through the gut.

  • 2 hours later: another 20–30 drops (your loading phase — same principle as starting a course of antibiotics)

  • Then, every 8 hours, if needed.

  • Stop when symptoms resolve — for most people, that's after 1 or 2 doses

Gone Viral is not a daily supplement. It's an intervention, used at the moment it's needed and put away when the job is done.

Pair it with one of our Reishi blends for prevention

Gone Viral handles the acute response. If you want to build the kind of immune resilience that means you reach for it less often, pair it with one of our Reishi blends taken daily, long-term.

Our owner Donna has been taking Reishi for 9+ years and has only been sick 3 times - twice when her granddaughter coughed in her face :) and once with COVID, which only lasted 8 hours. Reishi isn't a quick fix. It changes the body slowly, over months, building immune system depth and helping the body adapt to stress. Starting before the cold and flu season is highly recommended. The dosing should be daily for 3 months, then 2 weeks off to keep the body from building a tolerance, then repeat.

Gone Viral and Reishi together are the two-part strategy: daily prevention, immediate response when needed.
